PALEOKASTRITSA MONASTERY & CORFU TOWN PRIVATE TOUR

About this tour

By guided air-conditioned taxi/coach we depart from Corfu’s Port for Paleokastritsa, a beauty spot situated 25 kilometers from Corfu town center, north-west of the island and on one of Corfu’s most beautiful coastlines.

Here, we begin with a tour of the 13th century monastery of the Virgin Mary, built on a rock. Walking through the small garden and admiring the fascinating views we visit the Greek Orthodox Church and the small museum with its rare icons and books. The monastery is still inhabited by monks today.

Later through magnificent countryside, we drive to the beauty spot of Kanoni, where there will be time to take photographs of the famous Mouse Island & the small islet with the nunnery of The Holy Virgin of Vlacherena.

From Kanoni, we continue to Corfu Town, which is now a member of the World Heritage List (UNESCO) for a walking tour in the historical center of the fascinating old city where the following historical sights can be seen:

The residence of the British High Commissioner, a splendid Edwardian building, completed  in 1824, once the seat of the Knights of Saint Michael and Saint George up to 1864, and later the Palace of the King of Greece.
The bronze statue of the British High Commissioner, Sir Frederick Adam.
The Venetian quarters of Campiello and Corfu’s Historical Center.
The Town Hall, once a Venetian theater, built in 1690.
The Church of Saint Spiridon, Patron Saint of Corfu with rare icons, and where the holy body of the Saint lies in a crypt.

There will be free time for shopping & at leisure before returning to the pier.
